Force Field Analysis

Force field analysis was developed by Kurt Lewin. It is used to evaluate and plan the implementation of an idea/change.

The process is:

  • Describe your idea/change
  • Identify the driving forces that will help the idea/change succeed
  • Identify the restraining forces that will hinder the success
  • Optional:
    • Score each force with (1) weak - (5) strong
    • Add up the scores

Based on the results you can decide if it is the right time for the change. Alternatively you can strengthen the driving forces or reduce the restraining forces.
